Great value, great sound!,
I purchased these speakers because a) I’ve heard good stuff about Dayton, and b) they’re just $25! Although they’re 8ohm speakers, I’m running them from a 6ohm bookshelf system receiver. Compared to the system’s original speakers (that are about 6 years old), these Dayton’s sound great. A much cleaner sound, with much more distinct highs. There isn’t quite as much bass, but it’s tight and punchy, and is plenty for a small room or at a desk. The boxes aren’t ported, so if you felt like dabbling for a bit more bass, that might be a way to go. They aren’t rated for quite as much power as my system puts out, but I have not gotten any distortion from the speakers (probably because of their higher resistance), and I’ve taken them quite loud. So, for a dorm room, a basement, your garage, these are great speakers. They handle power, they sound great, and above all else, are cheap! Solid construction, too. Thick fiberboard with damping fiber in the cabinet for a good, tight sound.
Order them directly from Parts Express, though, as the shipping is a few dollars cheaper!

|Really Fine Sounding Speakers – Well-Worth Owning,
I received these Dayton B652 6-1/2″ 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair speakers just yesterday but I played them for several hours last night. The amplifier I used is the Dayton DTA-1 Class T Digital Amplifier 15 WPC which works beautifully with them.
I used an Insignia Portable CD Player with Skip Protection, CD-R, CD-RW as my source and I played a number of classical CDs.
The sound is quite amazing for such inexpensive speakers. It would be amazing if the cost were three times their low price. No kidding!
They do seem to work best in a near-field arrangement but they also easily fill up my bedroom with fine sound. I have them placed on 24″ high (steel) speaker stands (also Dayton Audio – Dayton SSMB24 24″ Speaker Stand Pair Square Steel Base – but apparently not sold though Amazon), about six feet apart, and four feet from the rear wall (and more than that from the side walls).
The bass is not going to “knock your socks off” – but it is certainly not lacking either. I am pretty picky when it comes to my audio equipment and, believe me, this system, which cost less than $160.00(!) all told, is an amazing value.
If you want absolute top quality equipment and sound, you must be willing to pay commensurate prices. But this small system, which could not function nearly as well without these speakers, and still cost as little, is all most people need for normal-sized rooms. In my opinion, the sound quality from these speakers is very smooth and very pleasant. Listening for several hours induced no “listener fatigue” whatsoever.
These speakers would also be an ideal choice for a child’s first sound system. He/she will appreciate the quality and, in fact, they will never “outgrow” them. Even if the child obtains “better” speakers some year down the road, that child will ALWAYS find a place for these.
At their current price, I give them my highest recommendation – and I also recommend the other components I mention; this is an excellent small sound system, one of which anyone would be proud.

|Another excellent collection,
It is wonderful to have these unabridged short stories on CD. This collection has two readers- sometimes the story is read by Hugh Fraser, sometimes by David Suchet. Suchet is definitely the better reader, as he uses more distinctive voices for each character, enabling the listener to follow the conversations a little better. However, all the stories are clearly presented, and each one is a delight- and better yet, most are solvable.
Another problem I had with this collection is that the stories are sometimes split between two CDs. This makes this particular collection harder to use in the car, when you have change CDs to hear the end of a story.

|Yes Yes and Yes,
Quite a nice collection of short stories from Christie. She calls them early cases, but Poirot is not stumbling around making mistakes. He’s still Poirot, just not the famous, arrogant, self-promoting Poirot of later years. Very fun collection. I can’t wait to listen again.
